Isness
Winter Is Coming
SIM Gallery, Reykjavik
November 2017

I was selected to participate in the SIM, The Association of Icelandic Visual Artists in Reykjavik, residency in Reykjavik, Iceland for the month of November.

Isness is a response to the sublime beauty and majestic awe of the Icelandic landscapes and its wintry qualities of light. It is an immersive journey through space and time.
The natural unpolluted light upon of the majestic landscape was observed and recorded. The northern lights dancing and swirling across the night sky also contributed to my experience of the grandeur of nature and light energy generated by solar storms. My reflections and experience from immersing myself in the Icelandic landscape was recreated as a digital representation of light with imagery which began through recording and manipulating the physical materiality of objects. When projected the digital objects become weightless, distorted, floating and dancing within space and time. In the metaphysical space where we have no term of reference, our understanding of these objects is distorted.

I worked in collaboration with musician John Kennedy to create the soundtrack to the animation.
