SÍM, The Association of Icelandic Visual Artists

2017 + 2018

The artist residency at the SÍM Residency in Iceland provided a dynamic and enriching experience, deeply influenced by the stunning Icelandic landscape and the local culture. In the first week, I focused on textiles, exploring the interplay between traditional and modern techniques, which was deeply inspired by the textures and colours of the Icelandic environment. The second week was spent in the studio, where I delved into my creative practice, experimenting with new ideas and materials while also absorbing the stark beauty of my new surroundings.

By the third week, I ventured out on adventures, engaging with the landscape through hikes and exploration, which further fuelled my inspiration. The residency culminated in a deep sense of connection with the environment, particularly as winter approached, bringing a profound awareness of the "Isness" of the moment. The experience was one of both personal and artistic growth, marked by the unique interplay between the rugged Icelandic nature and my own evolving creative vision.

These are some of the pieces inspired by my residency in Iceland.
